We’ve all read heart-wrenching press coverage about Afghanistan, particularly when it comes to the time of the Taliban: not to mention invasion, occupation, poverty and a whole slew of other associations. The restrictions on personal liberty suffered by the people of Afghanistan are hard to swallow or even taste to a Western palette. Yet there are always two sides to every story. Arranged marriages and strict adherence of Sharia and civil law are perceived as making life extremely difficult for young lovers. Yet the people of Afghanistan are described as warm and loving, with a deep sense of tradition and family values. So are there any success stories? Does orchestrated love win through at the end of the day in Afghanistan? I went in search of the other side of the coin.
