Is there anywhere in Kuwait that a man can’t work by law? Yes. In a women’s lingerie store. A Kuwaiti law that came into effect three years ago this month banned men from working in any store that sold “private” female goods, which posed a sort of double-edged sword. On the one hand, Kuwaiti husbands (and wives) welcomed the new law, which removed awkwardness of certain over-the-counter conversations. On the other, with men out of the question, shopkeepers have had their work cut out for them finding women who are willing to work in their stores.
