Rabat is Where it’s At: A Secret Haven on the Coast for Moroccan Daters?

Just Between You and Me…

Rabat is famous for many things. Morocco’s thriving capital is home to 2 million inhabitants and is twinned with European sister cities including Istanbul, Stockholm and Madrid. With its bustling commerce, a vibrant art and culture scene, gourmet restaurants and soaked in rich historical heritage, this city is undeniably bathed in colors, sights and sounds.

Like the rest of Morocco, Rabat’s population is mainly Sunni Muslim, and dating is naturally discreet. But there is a place, where couples love to go and walk along the shoreline, talk, and spend time together… a place called Oudaya.

Oudaya: Leave Your Worries At the Sea

I found this lovely video about Oudaya on Metropolistv.nl. The show’s correspondent, Chakir, follows some of the young couples who frequently visit this lovers’ haven. Among the stories that unfold in the video, there are some constant chords: The sea and the gorgeous architecture put the love in the air!

Against the backdrop of the breeze, the sun and the tide, young Moroccan couples also get the chance to share what they thing about love and dating with the show’s host (and of course the viewers!)

It may be short and sweet, but I think it’s a really interesting insight, into young Moroccan hearts and souls that might be hard to find elsewhere. Why don’t you check it out for yourselves? The video is in Arabic with good English subtitles.
