Who are the Arab Jews?

For many external eyes, the words Arab and Jews don’t belong in the same sentence, yet the number of Arab Jews in the Middle East once ran to almost 50,000. These days, the community has dwindled to under 5000, many of whom have repatriated to countries such as the U.S. Sadly, many members of the Arab Jewish community feel isolated: a hybrid of the Arab and Jewish cultures, with the rich, colourful customs from both, many Arab Jews feel isolated from either community and have become a minority that stands alone.

Arab-Israeli political relationships on the subject of Israel may be notoriously difficult, but how does it work among the ordinary folk that live in this complicated, largely segregated and tightly packed part of the world? Do Arabs and Israelis date? Do they hang out? Not much, and even less given the recent endeavours taken by some Israeli municipalities to stop Jewish girls dating Arab guys.
